Being a tailor is always more than making garments. One needs to have a passion to be an artisan specialising in making clothes. While there are a wide range of clothing, a bespoke suit is definitely the most complicated art piece in menswear that a tailor needs long-term commitment and dedication to train his or her skills and artistic sensibilities. A tailor shall handle all the complicated sewing works that were divided into specialists in a factory yet the hand sewing shall be incomparable to factory machine work. A classic silhouette is still the most prevailing in bespoke tailoring but every generation has their signature cut. Even tailoring is more about style, clients expect a strong fashion sense from the cutters so their newly made garments do not look like inherited from their fathers. All these require years of training and experience to polish the craft. Hong Kong does have a gap in nurturing a new generation of tailors. The objective environment is far from optimal to newcomers, nevertheless, we salute to all craftsmen in the trade and wish the new generation of tailors continue to flourish.
