Here we refer to making a two-piece suit in the traditional handmade method. From pattern development to basting for the first fitting, it generally takes at least four to five hours. After the first fitting, each piece of cloth is taken apart and recut. Then the tailor will do mark stitch on the fabric and cut the trimmings. The preparation work will take around four hours. The actual making process starts now and the tailor is making the suit for the second fitting. Ironing, making pockets, padding the canvas, assembling the canvas, padding the lapel, taping, attaching the facing and basting the jacket for second fitting would take around 16 hours. The trousers are almost done in the second fitting and this requires around ten hours of work. After the second fitting, it requires eight hours to sew the side seams, shoulders, collar and sleeves. The final stage includes felling the lining, prick stitching the edge, making buttonholes may require eight to ten hours. These sum up to at least fifty hours of handwork for making a two-piece suit.
